I have spent three hours downloading stuff from the internet to fix the "problem". Thanks so much for posting this, and thanks to Google for being smart enough to take me here when I typed "why is the scan button greyed out in image capture?" Yay for web 2.0. Thanks so much! I've been scratching my head for half an hour!Ĭurses upon Apple and its philosophy of "intuitive" undocumented features. It's strange that there's no documentation of this in the Image Capture Help. The scan button becomes turns white and worksĪctually, what I found is just what you found. Drag to enclose the entire image and let go. Click and drag from one corner of your image. The image will turn dark except for a rectangle contained in the drag area. There's a way to do it in Image Capture, one I discovered by accident. I would offer to have your babies, except that I'm past the menopause. Thanks man! That was completely unintuitive!Īhhhhhhhh-Thank you! I can't even believe they would do something so dumb. Thank you SO much for your help! This worked like a charm :)
I'm Not Bruce too, but I give thanks to INB for this little gem. Just to add to the thanks for this - caused me so much hassle over the last few days. Thank you, my god apple need to sort out this. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!!! and thank google for letting me find this tip. Thanks Not Bruce! I spent ages trying to work that out before I found your site. When you start Nikon Scan 4.03 after doing this it will detect your scanner and you should be good to go.Genius! You saved me a hell of a lot of time over what i already spent trying to figure the damn thing out. Afterwards your scanner should be listed under its correct name like "Nikon SUPER COOLSCAN 8000 ED". A warning message will be displayed which you will need to disregard, telling the system to go on with the installation. Next select "Browse My Computer" and specify the folder you created before.
Right click this entry and select "Update Driver Software". The corresponding entry will be named "Firewire Scanner" or something like that. On Device Manager's device list your scanner is located in the imaging devices category. On Windows 8 first follow the instructions at the end of this page which eventually take you to the Device Manager, too. Go to Window's Control Panel and select System > Device Manager. Turn on your scanner and connect it to your computer. = Begin of scanners.inf = scanners.inf - Windows Still Image Setup File Signature="$CHICAGO$" Class=Image ClassGUID=\InProcServer32,ThreadingModel,"Both" 1=%DiskName%, NKSCNUSD.dll=1 NK1394SCN.CopyUSDFiles=11 NKSCNUSD.dll,32 - Mfg="DIY Software" DiskName="Nikon Scan 4 CD-ROM" = End of scanners.inf = Next enter your text editor and press Ctrl+A followed by Ctrl+V to paste the code into the *.inf file. To do so click into the text box below and press Ctrl+A followed by Ctrl+C to copy the code. Open "Nks1394.inf" or respectively "NksUSB.inf" in a text editor of your choice to replace its contents. Depending on the scanner model you own copy the two files "NKScnUSD.dll" and "Nks1394.inf" or respectively "NksUSB.inf" which are to be found under "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Nikon\Driver\Scan1394" or "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Nikon\Driver\ScanUSB" into that folder. To do so create a new folder anywhere on your system you feel comfortable with.
Next we need to create a driver for your scanner that is 64 bit compatible.
Install the software on your 64 bit Windows 7 or Windows 8. To get started download Nikon Scan 4.03 for Windows Vista 32 bit.
**I used these instructions to get my Coolscan V ED working on Windows 10 and it seems to working well - maybe it will also work on W7 - Had to follow the instructions very carefully - Good Luck, Lucy** As I say, out of choice I am using the V ED with Nikon scan software. I prefer the images using Nikon 4.02 software but Vuescan does a fair job. This is rather slow in comparison with Vuescan which I run in Mojave. With XP Pro I am able to use the Coolscan V ED with 100% success.
I have Parallels Desktop on both my iMac (2015) and MacBook Pro (2017) and run both Windows 10 Pro and XP Pro. I have both the IV (due on eBay soon) and recently found a V ED on eBay which works well. Can you advise me please as to how you are getting VueScan to work for you regarding my 2 issues above? 2nd question: does VueScan end up being the only software that will show up in my Photoshop>Import dropdown menu? Mahalo.
I once found a tutorial on how to make the 4000 work with W7 but it's no longer live on the Adobe Forum so I can't download the author's links anymore. I have a CoolScan 4 also which I run thru an older computer on Windows XP - trying to make the scanner work with Windows 7 - but in trying out VueScan, I don't see the option to do multiple scans and I can't get it to scan at 4000 DPI like I did with NikonScan.
